I don't have info on the 8N but they are similar to the later NAA and 100 series tractors that I am familiar with. On those, the shaft and cover come out as an assembly (shaft is splined on the other end) when the 4-bolts are removed. It can then be disassembled to replace parts using snap ring tools among others depending on what all needs to be replaced. You may be able to remove just the seal without pulling the housing but you might have a gusher on your hands for a bit. They recommend draining fluids before you pull anything out. I carefully drill small holes in the annulus of the seal body then use a slide hammer to pull the old seal. I don't know if it will work in your case or not.
There may be a shop manual on line some where for 8Ns but the reprint manuals aren't too bad a price. Last edited by rotorwrench; 01-18-2018 at 10:37 AM. |

If everything is as it should the shaft assembly should slide right out and its easier to work at and you can check the bearing with it out. If it doesn´t slide out the end of the shaft might be a bit riveted on the end...some mild force is ok but when it need major force you have a chance of destroing pump and bushings if i remember right. Agree with rotorwrench on that a manual is a good investment. |
