Tried using the search option and can’t find anything on removing a four banger. Where do I hook the hoist and what size bolts do I use to bolt the motor to the engine stand.

"Eye Bolts" are sold by most venders. I use two, that screw right into the spark plug holes. As far as the question of size bolts, I would think that is dictated by the engine stand and how you want it on the stand i.e. side mount or rear. Hope this helps some.

I used I bolts that I got from a vendor's site. I inserted the eye bolts into the sparkplug holes of cylinders 1 and 4.

Knock the ceramic out of a couple old spark plugs and sling from the #3 and #1 cylinders. Bolt size determined by what points you use for a stand. Be care full of using the left front motor mount attach below the generator as any twisting will crack the timing gear housing.

As far as bolting the engine to a stand do not bolt it up from the end. Instead use the adapter sold by the vendors to attach at the lower water inlet. It is a bit pricey but it is the best way to hold the engine on a stand. Lifting the engine by the adapters in the spark plug holes is a good way to go. And yes get Les Andrews volume 1 book. It is a great step by step resource for working on A's.

The reason you fab a bracket for your engine stand at the lower water port and oil pan flange is so you can fit the rear main bearing cap properly during overhaul. I use nylon slings around the whole block..or knock the center out of a coupla spark plugs, your choice.

"banger" is short for "four banger" which simply refers to the number of cylinders. Nothing more, nothing less. It's not a derogatory term in any way, in fact, if anything it's more of an endearing term than anything. However, we all have our quirky pet peaves. Mine is "RPM's"

Mine is "RPM's" I agree. RPM is ALREADY plural, and the possessive S does nothing for it! GLMKE, don't worry about some nitpicking. The term fourbanger has been discussed before and some people consider it derogatory. I see their point/I've been there myself but not worth getting upset about. As far as your second point of what size bolts to use to mount it to the engine stand, I use a Harbor Freight stand, with no modification. Just make sure the bolts thread into the mounting points good and deep. I used long enough bolts that they just started to bottom out, so I added washer/spacers to them.
