Default 8BA Starter Motor Hicup & Fix.

DSC05410.jpg

Thought I would share this little hicup with you as you never know what you will find.!

38 PU is running an 8BA had been rebuilt when I purchased this PU and I have put 9000 mls on it since ownership.
On a few occasions the starter motor has jambed , about 6 times, freed up by the tried method of in 3rd gear and a rock forward to drop it out.
Finally yesterday thought i would remove starter motor for inspetion.
As thought it could be a fault somewhere wit hstarter motor.
Released all bolts securing starter motor cover plate and on prizing open at lower side out popped these 2 items. How they got in there anybodys guess, previous owner who bulit this engine up.
Anyhow the marks etc on the short piece of throttle link and the screw confirmed this had been the cause of my intermittent starter motor jambing.
Ring gear teeth and starter motor gear teeth all good. Nothing else remaining in thsi space that should not be there.
Bolted back up and all good and confident no more hicups to happen with the starter motor.
Sometimes you get lucky with a quick fix and its good when you know thsi was the cause.
Although how these bits ended up in thsi space will maybe remain the unsolved mistery.
Always some little things to attend to to keep on top of these interesting vehicles.

These parts were in the electric motor itself? Weird.

The parts were at the bottom of the space where ring gear and starter motor mesh together. Its like he must have ended up in there prior to starter motor and support plate being fitted. Anyhow its always a start with the simple solutions and progress further as required.
