Default How do I install a windshield regulator ?

Dear All,

My 1936 Fordor has no windshield regulator,
the previous owner just installed a threaded rod with a handle.

Now I got a regulator from MAC to bring the car back "original "
and thought it is easy to install 😌
4 screws and done....

Well... the MAC assembly is to large/ wide for the gap between dashboard
and window frame....

Do I have to do something with the dashboard or can I sneak the
assembly in from below ?

Thank you for your help :-)

BB

I installed one of Bob Drakes repro windshield regulators in my '35 fordor sedan. The one you got from MAC's probably came from the same original source. I had to remove some of the slotted oval head screws, that are normally hidden behind the ws frame, that fasten the top of the dash to the windshied openning of the body. I'm thinking it was several of the ones near the opening that the regulator arms come through on both sides. This allowed that opening to be expanded enough to get the winder mechanism or arms through. After that, everything bolted in place and worked well.

There is an installation sheet on Drakes site (I think it's Drake).

BB........Read CAREFULLY just above from JM 35 Sedan. He explains how he installed the same (DRAKE) regulator in his '35 Ford. You will need to remove the INSIDE windshield trim pieces. This will allow you to see the fasteners that secure the TOP edge of your dashboard. You will need to remove several fasteners at the TOP of dash so that you can flex the top edge of dash to make enough room to slide the new mechanism in. Make sure you lubricate the TEETH and winding mechanism on the new assembly with white lithium grease, or equivalent. Hope this helps. I'm sure that if you have questions, you can PM JM 35 Sedan and he will give you GOOD advice. DD

You may also have to loosen or remove the the two fasteners in the lower corners in the dash to get the dasp to move far enough to get the regulator in place.

BB..........Here's a picture showing the REAR side of a dash, the clear slot in the upper middle, and the area where the regulator fits. Thought this MIGHT help you see what you have to work with. Someone has cut the arms on this one. DD

I dug up some pictures I had taken when replacing the windshield regulator in my 35 fordor, but unfortunately I can't post them here now because of some type of problem on this website. If/when this changes, I'll come back and post them.

Maybe you can exchange email addresses via PM and send them to him that way. Just a thought.
