Default Measuring timing gear lash

My Google Fu is weak this evening and I'm sure this has been covered on the barn before...

Does anyone have a photo, video or diagram showing the proper way to measure the lash in a timing gear?

I've head both feeler gauges and dial indicator, which is best?

If feeler gauges, I assume we're talking about the stick type vs. blade type... correct?

You could use an indicator or feeler strip. I just stick the fattest feeler strip between the gears that will slide in. Should be .003-.005". Over .009-.010" is too much lash and a rattle will result.

Check in several locations, I usually do 4 different spots. All gears are not concentric.
