Default Lost key of Ford Locking gas cap

I have a friend with a Ford locking gas cap with a small flip lid with Ford written on it, and when you lift the lid there is some numbers stamped on the top of part where you place the the key in, would that number apply to the key number as he has lost the keys for this cap. It has nothing written on the plate underneath held on by four screws would this be a Bob Drake cap or a earlier one and do all of these type of caps have these numbers stamped on them.

try a locksmith. he may be able to make a key or take it apart and see if there is a name on any of the parts

That cap could be the one I lost on an Auckland motorway years ago, when I drove off after fixing a fuel blockage without affixing the cap!! lol. It was a Drake repop, and never did lock, that is, I could lock it and still remove it! I went back and looked and looked, never found it. And no....I no longer have the keys.

My car came with a cap and no key. I have a small collection of keys and went through each one that fit the opening. Insert the key and bump, bounce, wiggle the key without bending or breaking it. This worked for me and I still use the cap. Chances are you will find one that unlocks it. These are not sophisticated locks. Good luck.

Bought a Drake locking gas cap at a garage sale for $2. Cost $18 to have a key made.

I believe those locks use a Briggs and Stratton key and lock mechanism. Take it to a lock smith and let him look at those numbers on the cap.

Ian just take it to a locksmith and they would do you a key. My 48 boot lid lock had no key. Took it to Armstrongs and they made one.

What does this number under the flip lid of this locking cap mean.

One I have has no number on lock. To remove it from cap to get a key made compress the spring loaded tab and slide out past the flip lid. Took a little back and forth but did slide out eventually. Now I guess I should get a key made.

Looks like a "best if used by 2005". If in doubt, throw it out. 8^) Jack E/NJ

My Bob Drake gas caps say Bob Drake on the under side. No numbers on the top under the flap. The key code is a 4 digit number. It appears on the box from Drake and is also stamped onto the key. But nowhere on the gas cap.

I needed two gas caps for my trucks and when I ordered from Drake the guy taking the order rummaged through their stock looking at the key codes on the outside of the boxes until he found two with the same key code.

The cap you have is probably not a Drake cap. That 4 digit number is quite likely the key code though. It probably means something to a locksmith.
