Default Mallory coil

I was going through a recently purchased boxed of early flathead distributors and found this cool looking Mallory coil. I really like how it reads on the end "The Best Coil I Ever Made" and it has a signature, M. Mallory. the model number is 6000 6v I think.
Is this coil of any value? I never seen one like it and I'm not sure what type of wire would be used with it.
I appreciate all input.
Thanks, Mark
I was able to rotate picture on post below, for some reason, not on this one.

Here are a couple similar ones that are listed on Ebay. Maybe watch and see what they sell for, if at all.

Thank you, I didn't even think about Ebay, I don't normally look on that site at all.

It's a six volt coil used with the Malloy YC distributors. It can be used with any six volt system as far as I know. I see you are in Belleville, I'm in Southgate.

Guy had a NOS one at Hershey this year. He was asking $125. I couldn't test it so I passed. With any used electrical part like this, it's dicey how long it will last.

flatheadfrd, if your ever in the area, feel free to give me a heads up and stop on by.
I lived in Southgate for a short time growing up, Burns St. & Northline.

Tim and Bubba, what is the best way to check this, can it be rebuilt if it is bad?

Pretty simple check. Check the resistance from the pos terminal to the negative. Should be from .5 to 2 ohms primary. Check from coil output terminal to positive terminal should test at 5,000 to 8,000 ohms.

Concern is whether the coil has been ran as a positive ground unit or not.

Coil could be ran as a 12 volt with 1.5 ohm external resistor.

If coil has been ran as a positive ground unit it will have some permenant magetism causing a 70-80 percent loss of out put if ran in wrong polarity...
I usually run these on a output tester and try both polaritys watching the spark output.

If nothing else they look cool on a flathead, mallory made osme mounts for the flathead engine to the head...

I believe you remove the black top section with the two screws and then the high voltage lead can be removed or replaced. You can use any Non-resistance plug wire for the output. The model and voltage is stamped in the metal ring around the top.

Well, I tested it as Bubba suggested. From positive to negative it was all over the place and finally stopped at 2 ohms.
The positive to the coil main terminal output showed nothing at all. Can these be rebuilt like the early originals? I do like the looks of it.

Check with Skip "[email protected]". I had him test one of these for me (mine was good). I believe that he said that repair would vary by coil. He will know.
