Default best way to de-rust a coil?

One good method of de-rusting is emersion in Evaporust, but I am not sure if the coil is a sealed unit, or if it might be harmed by the process.

My second choice would be soda blasting.

Ant thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Ive media blasted them before - one had a buncha pinholes in it - still works. Can fill them in with JB weld or something to make it smooth again.

I would never soak it in a liquid solution. How about but a new one! Wayne

And even if you have a pin hole, the originals are not oil filled so nothing to leak.

Given the small size of a coil: why not use emery cloth and elbow grease?

if its got pits good luck cleaning them out with emery cloth. Not to mention some of the folds and whatnot.

FYI when i media blasted the few i have i taped up the bakealite end where the wires go, left the brass screw terminals exposed to clean them but the rest got taped up.

Casting my vote for Evaporust. Invert the coil after soak/before paint to drain any EVR that may have seeped in.

Lightly blast with glass beads us the way to go. Have tested and refinished many without issue. As was noted tape up the Bakelite base
