Default starter locks up

Can someone tell me why my 1930 starter will not work on my early 1928 AR model a engine asy. It locks up and will not turn over. Why does it lock up?

You must have the multiplate flywheel, which takes a special SERVICE DRIVE to clear the flywheel.
You need a starter with the 1/2" shaft and drive, rather than the later 5/8".
