Default Starter Drive Question

The spring type starter drive, shaft & pinion assembly from my '52 F1, 8RT-C1BA came apart a little further than the manual shows.

The little ring at the end of the shaft is threaded onto the shaft and then the end of the shaft is swedged (bent) into two slots in the ring to lock it in place.

My ring was loose (finger tight) and easily came off while washing it with Varsol. I guess the tiny bent-in ends just couldn't keep it from unthreading itself.

Is there any reason why I shouldn't apply Loctite on it before I thread in on and bend the ends of the shaft back into the slots? Red or Blue?
There isn't much shaft material there to bend in, I guess that's why it didn't hold it in place.
...Thanks
...Terry

I'd go with blue and knock the tabs in.
Martin.
