Default '35-'36 radiator caps

I've been looking for a cap but no luck.I checked Sac.Vintage,Macs and C&G. All I could find is a $50 one with a bail.I need a cheap one for a little experiment.I plan on dangling a magnet from the bottom of a cap that will hang into the coolant, just above the tubes. It's purpose is to attract some of the loose rust particles floating around. It might not work but I'll try it anyway.Does anyone know of a source? It is a non-pressurized system. Thanks, Gene.

You want an everseal R-1 cap. Found at most flea markets and on Ebay for a few bucks.

Should be some way to put that magnet in place on a temporary basis w/o having it dangle it from a radiator cap. I can invision mounting a strongly magnetic rare earth type magnet on a piece of non ferrous metal, putting that in the top of the radiator, and just use your existing cap.

Hi Everyone, I get all of these I need because I have ready access to old PC hard drives, some are almost 20 years old.

I disassemble and harvest the magnets, sometimes there are two, sometimes one, as part of the read-write head coil mechanism. You'll need some super-small torx bits and a straight-blade screwdriver and about ten minutes.

If you're into aluminum recycling the frame of the drive is a pretty nice chunk compared to beer cans!

What about using a magnet on both ends, stick it to the bottom of the cap

Good idea Kurt.Thanks.From the bottom of the cap to the top of the tubes is a little more than 2". I'll try to find a couple of magnets 1" high X 1-1/4 diameter, stack them and attach to the cap bottom. That will leave 1/2" submerged in the coolant.
