Default Distributor Cam

Yesterday the weather was perfect and took the Roadster out for a spin, this car is not driven often and needed some exercise.

In short order I noticed that she was just not running up to par, brought her home and started to check her out. I grounded every plug to see what cylinder she was not hitting on and found #1 to be the dead cylinder.

My next step was a compression check which surprised me because every cylinder was at 80 pounds so that was a relief! The next step was ignition, BINGO! this was the problem. I noticed that my rotor button was very sloppy on the cam, I had a couple of old distributors on the shelf and took the same rotor button that was sloppy and put on the backup distributor that was on the shelf, it was tight without slop.

I removed the cam from my Roadster and installed the cam from the other distributor and then set the clearance at .25 between the rotor tip and cap and timed the engine.

This fixed the problem and she runs smooth as silk with plenty of power. So if you find your car lacks performance or has a slight miss you may want to check this out.

Default Re: Distributor Cam

Bill Stipe's distributor cam is just about the best $15 I've ever spent on my Model A
