Hey Guys,
I need some help with the identification of some transmission stuff. When I was at Beardsley a week ago I met a guy that had a couple of transmissions for sale. I like to have good spares, and the price was right, so I bought one. I've never had a transmission apart, and this would give me an opportunity to get to know its innards. It was greasy and dirty, but other than that, looked pretty good. It came with an input shaft, even though that was separate. When I got it home, Pop was looking at it and noticed something unexpected. There is a great big lock washer on the end of the input shaft near where it fits in the pilot bearing. In my books and on-line, I cannot find any pictures anywhere showing a lock washer here...and I can't imagine what it is for. Can anybody help? It sure as hell looks like a Model A transmission. Am I correct? Is this a Model A input shaft? It was just sitting next to it when I bought it, but it fits, and the gears line up and it turns. I don't suppose this is for a an early multi-disk clutch... I'm stumped. Ken
