Default New exhaust pipe

This is a topic that has been covered before, but I thought a new post might help a few people.

I bought an almost new Aries muffler probably a year ago. Being a typical cheapskate Model A owner, I was getting a few more miles out of my old ones. Reading the article in The Restorer about intake and exhaust, it reminded me that the old repro mufflers were not very good. I had been working on the carb and it was running well, but backfiring on deceleration, probably due to a leak at the manifold/muffler connection.

It was a fairly easy replacement, although the muffler hanger was deformed, which took some work to get it to fit and connect properly. Before I put the new one on, I did a photo comparison to check on the differences. There are many, as anyone who has seen the old repros vs the Aries would be aware of. It may still help some who have not seen the Restorer article or noted the differences between the old, cheap repros and the Aries.

The difference was remarkable. The car runs better, does not backfire and is much, much quieter. Why did I wait so long to install it? I actually bought it for my Town Sedan, but put it on my roadster. I will be ordering one for the TS shortly.
