Default Drag Link Puzzler

The drag link rebuild kits come with two of the cupped disks. I drove out only one on my drag link when dismantling it. After installing one disc in the cavity it seems to leave the re-installed ball so deep in the cavity as to nearly make contact with the forging. Is that normal or is it sometimes necessary to install both of the discs?

The pitman arm end has two ball caps the cap that fits into the housing looks like a cupped washer the other ball cap has a stem that fits into the spring . The spindle arm end the spring goes in first then the stemmed ball cap the end plug .

The loading of the parts in each end of the Drag Link is DIFFERENT. Refer to exploded views in the PARTS CATALOGS, or search Drag Links, here on the Musty Ol' Barn.
"Somebody" put NEW parts in Vermins' draglink, BUT the NEW spring was made TOO SHORT--He SHIMMIED like a BITCH & it's a wonder it didn't FALL OFF THE BALL!!!

Only one cupped disk is used, and in only one end of the drag link. None are used in the tie rod

Thanks for the answers. I still wonder why they often put an extra cupped disc in the kit. Unlike the drag link, the ball shank ends up well into the pocket on the inboard (cupped disc) end of the opening so I was thinking that two discs might leave it closer to the center. It seems that a lot of worn ball shanks have groove cut in them where it rubs on the side of the slot opening in the drag link and that positioning it more to the center would prevent this.
