Default 28 A Ammeter

Hey guys, I put a reman generator on and it shows a charge on my ammeter at idle and higher rpms , It shows discharge when the headlights are on idling and reved up, Is this normal ? Should I swing the third brush a bit more ?

Yes, if you drive a lot with the headlights on.

I used an in-line ammeter on mine, set the charge rate to just barely a positive charge with lights on and road RPMs. Then installed one of the voltage regulators from MACS that look like a cutout. Has worked great for 4 years now. I can run all night without worrying about a low battery, but also won't have a boiled battery in the daytime. Without a regulator, if you feel the charge rate is too high for daytime just turn the lights on now and then.

Depends on how much you are talking.

You can drive for hours with the ammeter showing discharge of a couple of amps. Mine is set for about 4 amps normal driving and I don't care about the discharge for the maybe an hour of driving with the headlights on. (I have to get off my ass and install the regulator Tom sells).
