Here is one tip: When you go to install the tubular shock links use grease to hold the many parts in place. Worked great for me.

Make sure you have very strong brackets. The impact loads of a shock are high and will fatigue a lot of the brackets they sell. The forces are high. You are not just bolting a few parts together. A lot of A'ers have had broken brackets after a few miles.

I installed mine Stipe Shocks last year... Here's what I did

1) Installed the arms to the shock core on a bench.

2) Loosely attached (just a thread or two) the arm/core assembly to the frame. You want to have as much play as you can for step 4) --so that assembly is just hanging on the frame..

3) Pack the original style links and it's parts with very cold grease (cold grease is stickier, helped me with holding all the parts). I stuck my whole gun in the refrigerator .

4) Attach the link to the frame ball, then to the shock arm ball. (frame ball 1st, then pull up on towards the shock arm ball and cap off with link screw cap.

5) Tighten the link screw cap.

6) Tighten the shock core to the frame.

(YES step 4 is a pain in the ass).

First off, what type of shocks are you installing, modern tubular or stock lever action? You seem to be getting info on installing both types.

Mike, I think we could be good friends, we think a lot alike. My wife has given up getting upset "finding things" in the refrigerator or oven. Her biggest complaint is finding paint rollers and brushes (for painting the house) in the refrigerator. It keeps the paint from drying so I don't have to clean them at the end of the day.
