Do you have the oval speedometer, or the round speedometer?
Oval is first half of 1930, and round is second half and 1931. The late style has the steel inserted cover on the back of the head of the switch. I actually found the late style popout NOS at an antique store about 10 years ago. |

Check with Steve Becker at Bert's Model A Center in Denver, Colorado. The last time I was there I think I may have seen one next to his collection of 'hens teeth'.
Now the N.O.S. - new old stock - may be a bit of a stretch - like finding a stash of diamonds in a gold mine. However you should be able to find 'restored' originals with a little patients. |

Al is correct. Pop out switches appear on eBay quite often. I have even collected a few when could get them cheap. However be warned that those three little letters "NOS" usually result in big prices!
There are three on eBay right now: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sop=..._skc=50&rt=nc" Last edited by pgerhardt; 01-27-2016 at 09:55 PM. |

Check with Dick Crabtree. He restores them and can tell you exactly what you need for your car. I don't have his contact info but i'm sure a quick search on here will turn it up.

Mine is round since my car was made in November 1930. can you clarify what you mean by the steel inserted cover. Also what is your asking price? Thank you for responding promptly to my request.

From a practical standpoint, no. But many of us get great satisfaction out of returning our model A's to as original as possible. Hence even tho my head tells me that I would have a better ride with 16" radial tires, my heart won and I am running the correct 21" wheels, tires with the correct metal valve stems and caps.
Although I also think it might be fun some day to go completely restomod, with modern suspension, disk brakes, a new Ford 4 cylinder ecoboost engine, and a real shiny base coat/ clear coat paint job. Na, that was my evil twin speaking! Back to putting another coat of lacquer on my door trim. ![]() |

The early switches are a diecast single part housing, but from mid 1930 0n they had a metal cover crimped in place on the rear of the switch. I had to remove the cover to repair a switch once, and got the job done by carefully prying away the crimped lip on the steel disc. |

Sorry, I misunderstood your response. I will follow up on Ebay etc. Also, Dick Crabtree was mentioned as a possible source. Do you know him or how I may contact him? Again thanks for your help.
PS: I have 2 model A's, one a 31 restored standard tudor and the other a 30 roadster undergoing restoration for which I need a pop out ignition |

One (1) experience; hence, one (1) opinion:
If you call Mr. Crabtree at the number per reply #13, you will be glad to have had the unique pleasure of having spoken to a most wonderful, Model A knowledgeable vintage locksmith gentlemen. |

In regard to locating a pop out switch for my late 1930 model A, at the suggestion of several other Model A'ers I have been trying to contact Dick Crabtree at 605 487 7229 with no luck. Anyone have any idea as to how to reach Dick? Thanks for your help.

Do any of you know, will the longer (31") work with the 28-29 model year? Seems like that extra inch would not be a proplem. Any reason why the longer cable would not even be a benefit perhaps?

Send him a PM. Last I heard from him a couple of weeks ago he was on a vacation of sorts. Might be patient and wait on his return. Rod

Actually it bunches up the cable on the rear of the block and doesn't look as nice as the correct cable. My 28 currently has a repro with the extra length, and it doesn't look right with the extra inch.
