Default door hinges again

why were the 't' door hinges tapered in the first place. Narrow at top and wider at bottom.??

The side of the body is at an angle. The body being wider at the top than at the bottom. The tapered hinge allows the upper and lower hinge pin to be vertical and the door doesn't fall open or closed. My question is why did they change to a rectangular hinge? It seems the door would swing open with it.
