Hey guys. I'm Dustin. I live in the panhandle of Texas and I love cars of all kinds. I'm building a 30 model coupe. So far I have the motor running and I'm going throught the brakes. I'm sure many questions will fallow.
Full disclosure, I'm a hot rodder but leaving the running gear mostly stock and will be needing your wisdom. Thanks. |

Welcome Dustinj,
Are you keeping the brakes stock? If so go with cast iron drums for better stopping. Oh, and get ready for the heavy hinting to move over to the HAMB. But if you have any questions feel free to ask. Mike

Thanks mike. I'm already on the hamb. They sent me here for any stock related questions. I'll refrain from a build thread or pictures.
Yes stock mechanical brakes. They work pretty good as is. I have disassembled and cleaned them up and installed flat head teds deluxe floater kit. My drums are pretty decent so I'll run them until I can afford some cast drums or upgrade to juice. Thanks |

Juice s not really needed, the mechanicals work fine and are easy to work on. The steel drums WILL fade on you, that and they were never designed to be turned. So as a safety item, since I assume you will be going a smidge over 65 they are recommended.
Mike

Ok, I do intend to hop up the 4cyl at some point so I may go ahead and order the cast drums. My problem at the moment is getting 16" steel wheels to fit the mechanical drums. I'm on the hunt for longer studs. As of now I have the rear studs out and the hubs separated from the drums.

OK, you can forget what I said about the Big Three Swap Meet. I assume you know the reason you need the longer studs. If not, go here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/t.../#post-8330045 You will have to read between the lines since it is not written towards your situation. If you just get the longer studs you will still need an adapter. Again, how about a set of Kelsey's?

Yea I've been all over those threads looking for answers. We are going to make spacers for the steel wheels to fit flush as soon as I find longer studs and get them put in. I do have a line on some 35 wires for pretty cheap that I may pick up just in case. May have to run those until I go Av8 and juice brakes.
Thanks again
