Our local club is holding a tour up Mt. Baker Highway (NW Washington State) to the end of the road at Artists Point on August 9th. The climb is from sea level to about 5,000' in 45 miles or so. The last stretch of the road was finally cleared of snow on June 29th, so a few of us decided to give it a go in advance of the tour.
Back in the day, it was a common destination for Model As and similar vintage cars... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The highway is actually paved now so it was a piece of cake. We started at the August 9 tour rendezvous point... ![]() ...and stopped several places on the way to the top to check out picnic sites and other attractions... ![]() ...and made it to Artists Point... ![]() ![]() ![]() No drama on the trip down. Brakes stayed cool and no fade. We're ready for the tour! Here's a link to the tour flyer... http://www.moonona.org/docs/CAN-AM%202017.pdf

If that's the case, I think you need a new set of glasses

We get enough of that white stuff in the winter, we don't have to go looking for it in the summer.

Hey Dick,
How did you find those great old pictures from the Whatcom Museum? Do you have someone there that you know? I have an old Kodak pocket camera and am thinking about dragging it along and taking some era pictures for a write up for the MAFCA magazine and it would be cool to include some original pictures if possible. Also we have to be in Deming at 9AM! ![]()

Yes, the photo archives at the Whatcom Museum. They make it super easy to research old photos. http://whatcommuseum.org/collections...hoto-archives/ I snagged all the ones having to do with Model As and Mt. Baker. You are welcome to use any of these you want... https://www.flickr.com/photos/996911...57675057035693 Great idea about the MAFCA write up. It's easy to make digital pics look like old time ones. I can help with that if you'd rather shoot with digital rather than the film.

That had to be a lot of fun climbing the mountain. Since I have never done anything like it, do you get out of 2nd gear while climbing?

Our A's are torque monsters. Only 40 HP but about 120 ft pounds of torque. A lot of the climb was done in 3rd. Only when an uphill hairpin slowed the car too much was a downshift to second needed. The 5,000' altitude did not seem to affect performance noticeably either.
