Default Time for new water pumps

This is my 1st time dealing w/water pumps on my 1950 f1 8ba. The driver side is leaking like a sieve. So let's open a can of worms... if this was ur truck, who's pump would ya use?

The truck does have a 4 barrel, and a mild cam. Never ran hot in the last 3 years, about 180.

Marlo - Without any doubt or hesitation, I recommend that you ship the pumps to Skip. There are (in my opinion) no better choices or options. Quick, easy and super guy to deal with.

I used Dennis Carpenter pumps on my '48 F-1 with good results. I have put over 6,000 miles on it and no problems. Drove it to Charlotte, NC, Nashville, TN and back to Ohio this summer. I would say that was a good test!

Rebuilt mine 6 years ago. Very inexpensive and easy to do. No problems.

Another question in a similar vein. I have a couple of rebuilt 8BA narrow belt pumps I bought in 1987 to take along as spares on long trips. I never had occasion to use them. They have the standard "Ford Rebuilt" seals on them. I had to pull the engine for some work, and wonder if I would be better off replacing the current pumps (which have had no problems) with these. Can rebuilt pumps go bad just sitting around?

I sent my Merc. pumps to Skip. one of the impellers was a bit to large for the opening in the block even after I opened it up as far as I considered safe. Skip told me to send it back so I did, he paid postage and made good on the pump, and they work great. been in there for about 6-7 years now with no complaints. I would recommend him anytime.

I've used Drakes with no problems and cooler running. I'd vouch for Skip too. He did a coil for me and as the others say he is a super nice guy to deal with, quick turn around.

Rebuilt my own pumps on my 35. Total cost thirty five dollars each. Not hard to do and are working just fine.

Only issue i can think of is if the sealing surface of the impeller got so rusty that it will eat the seal at startup.

I've got Skip's rebuilt pumps on all my Flatheads. He will rebuild your OEM pumps. I recommend using Skip.
