this may be of interest
coil 2.0 int resis 12v used on texas t distr. coil to distr removed from distr and held at increasing dist. frm ground-no rotor to go thru set up1 .6 ext resist jump 5/16" 2.75 v drop across ext resis 8.0v across coil primary winding don't know where missing v1.2 v went 4amps used,10.25 watts across resis set up2 1.3 ext resist jump 1/4" 6.3 v drop across ext resis ?5.7 across coil primary wndg 3.6 amp 17 watt ----------------- coil wire plugged into distr top, plug removed with wire from distr attached - the spark had to go thru rotor to get to plug set up 3 1.3 ohm plug fired intermittantly setup 4 .6 ohm plug fired consistant ------ in none of the above did coil get hot to touch |

Adding the 1.6 volt external resistor ought to improve the life expectancy of the coil a lot. The way they are out of the box they burn out quickly.
