Default Help ID this mystery chrome piece

My dad asked me to post this for him. It came in the glove compartment of a 1947 Ford convertible he bought in the 60's. Somehow though everything this piece is still floating around the garage. Anyone know what it is?

This is the base plate that attaches to the wood header portion of the center top hold down latch for 1941 through 1948 Ford and Mercury Convertibles, the latch lever that cams over the hook part of the center post attaches to this plate.

Thanks for the quick reply! We had a feeling it was something convertible specific, but the car had a chopped Carson top and no longer had that hold down latch. That explains why it was in the glove box.
