Unhappy no spark

I have a 35 ford with the helmet distributor and a plate on top with a condenser. The coil is separate. When I hold the coil wire close to ground I don't get any spark at all. The car has been sitting for about 10 years but was running when I put it away. I changed the points but still no spark. I was thinking it might be the condenser but how do I check it? Can I replace it with any condenser? or where could I get the right one?
Thanks

Do you have power to the coil? If the coil has power to the (-) terminal (assuming 6v positive ground) and you make and break the connection on the (+) terminal the coil should produce a spark. What is the voltage to the (-) terminal with the (+) ungrounded and then with it grounded?
