In the '60's we called them the 'Police Head'; presumably they had a higher compression ratio.

The comments about higher compression and being called a "Police Head" are all correct. I always assumed the "B" was added so the parts department could tell them apart without having to look at the combustion chamber and guessing. The funny thing is that when the Model B Ford came out in 1932 they had a "C" on the head so people wouldn't get confused.

"B" means "bottom", you must have your head on upside down.
