Does anyone have a Ford-issued picture showing the hood open which they can post? I have the one attached below with the hood being tied open on the assy. line, and I have one taken at the Fowler Ford Agency with the hood opened on a panel truck, but does someone have any other photos taken in an Agency Showroom or Service Dept. with the hood in the open position??

I don't have the Bratton's catalog handy. Is #38870 the 1929 Cabriolet? I was going to suggest that one if this number shows a different car.

Marshall, yes that's the one you're thinking of. It is also on the cover of the 2017 Bratton's catalog.

Thanks everyone.
The reason for me asking is, a friend & I were discussing whether or not it was acceptable to open the hood and prop it as seen in Brad's 1st, 2nd, & 4th photos. Some folks take the position that it will damage the hood if it is laid over upon itself, -and my position is it will only do so if the hood is improperly restored. I can remember nothing in the Model-A Instruction Book nor the Service Bulletins that suggests it is improper to fold the hood over when the hood is opened. I would think the above pictures substantiate my position on this however if someone else has Ford-printed materials that suggest this practice should not be done, would you let us know please? Thanks! . |

Don't prop it open like Brads #3 picture outside! If the wind catches it you'll be mad, don't ask me how I know :-(

This would be the time for an honorable mention that the 28-29 radiators have a bracket soldered to the tank to allow the front part of the hood to rest on it. That could show some intent from the designers as to the open position of the hood. I don't think I've seen those tabs on any 30-31 though.

My '29 had those tabs, but the hood hung on them by the skin of my fingernail, so I never trusted it.

For the purists, check out the front of the 20 millionth; the deluxe wiper arm and the license brackets orientation.
