Default Wescotts

Did you know that Wescotts makes special rear fiberglass fenders for the 30/31 CCPUs?

Most others claim that any 30/31 Coupe rear fenders will work, and they might.

Wescotts have a little sharper inward curve on the back end because of the tail light bracket arrangement.

I also wonder if the curvature that fits the bed's fender mounting ring is the same.

Thought would ask the Gang before I called them..

Yeah, fiberglass.. No point car.

People are probably getting confused by the late '31 pickup with the wide bed. They take a special narrower fender that is unique to the '31 wide bed pickup and difficult to find. The rest of the '30-'31 pickups use the coupe fender. I am surprised to hear your statement that "Wescotts have a little sharper inward curve on the back end because of the tail light bracket arrangement". I would have assumed they were the same as the original and think you might want to double check that statement. If you decide to go fiberglass I have heard only good things about Wescott's.

Wescott's has been around a long time. Karl posts here and on the EV8 forum from time to time.

I've put glass rear fenders on three cars, all temporarily, all are still on them.I always tell about my pickup being at a diner one day for lunch when a busload of seniors drove in.An old fellow was walking around the A,talking it up,telling the other seniors about the A's.He was knocking on the rear fender, saying, real steel!no plastic crap here!.The guy with me knew I had plastic rear fenders, and asked me if I was going out and pee in the old guys wheaties.I said no,he was having fun,let him roll.

Nothing to do with late 31s.

Go to Wescott's site and you will see the special narrow bed rear fenders. You can see the different shape from the Coupes above them.

They even say they are not the same.

The Ford parts book shows roadster, coupe, cabriolet and pu using
the same rear fender.

Maybe Wescotts enhanced their design to prevent reported interference.

All I know is what's in Wescotts site that clearly states and shows their differences. Maybe some on from the Company will respond.

I've put Wescotts on two pickups.I bought one set for a 29 Roadster, and another set for a 30 coupe, but both wound up on trucks.I had no tailight problem, they're a mile from the fender. The license plates clear by an inch or so too. What am I missing? Nice fenders.Fit and work well.

I'm BLESSED, Vermin has what appears to be 4 NOS fenders. They even still have those little groovey lines, where the bead wire was rolled in & nice paint & the underside is a duller BLACK. He's an older restoration, with "maybe" 40 or 50 miles on it. Have NO written or documented history, but LOTS of old pics. Engine rebuild placque says 1986, runs like a NEW HOME sewing machine. Hub caps say made in Argentina. LOTS of new parts, like, shocks, springs, etc. Has a perfect radiator, which I "think" is an Isaac Kramer re-po, probably from the '30's. Looks like a funnel neck '29, but the top tank holds more water than a stock one. ANYBODY have any history on these radiators? Kramer was a Russian Immigrant who made re-po radiators, from the late '20's, to about 1939.

The fenders we used for molds were loaned to us by a well known Portland area restorer from what he stated was an original roadster pickup. He stated the 1930 pickup original fender had the same shape as the 1928-29 Coupe/Roadster/Pickup fender to better fit the arch of the fender mount on the bed (which is supposedly unchanged between years) and to have better clearance for the license plate.

Over the years I have seen a few (very few) pickups with one of each type.

I had a lively conversation with Marco Tahtaras on Fordbarn several years ago and his feelings were there is no unique 1930 pickup fender, that what we had taken molds off was likely an early after market fender.

Thats my story and I am sticking to it.

Thank you Karl..

Now.. Is there a physical difference in the two fenders? If not, why does Wescotts show two different part numbers?

Didn't the early 30 pickups use the 29 body?I had one that had the 29 style body and fenders, but had a later style gas filler neck, not threaded, and had some shims under the radiator to raise it up because of the 30 style depressed crossmember mounts. That truck used coupe/roadster/pickup fenders.Engine and frame were April of 30,and there was no gas tank date stamp.
