Default Weber carb

I had a real issue with flooding at stop lights last year, and it finally got so bad that it quit one day and I couldn't get it started at all. It wouldn't even try. I was headed for Arizona anyway, so I took it (the carb)to Sammy at Arizona Model A's and he worked on the carb, and then put it on his car and he took me for a ride and it worked nicely. I brought it back, put it on my knocking and leaking car, and it worked great. I then took out the engine, had Bert's build another, got it in yesterday and it started right up and ran long enough for me to set the timing. It then sputtered and quit, and now I am back to square one. It has a Holley 2-4 lb pump, and a regulator, and it still overwhelms the weber. Has anyone else had this kind of trouble with a weber?

I have a Carter P60504 fuel pump, supposed to put out 1-4lbs. I installed a Holley 12-804 regulator downstream from the pump, and have the whole thing set as low as the regulator will set, probably less than a couple of pounds.

I run mine just off the tank. I found the electric 6 volt fuel pump even with a regulator overwhelmed the float. Be careful, the pump will flood the engine and contaminate the oil in the pan if let go long enough. I have also used a cheap electric 12 volt pump from NAPA running on 6 volts with no regulator works fine too.

BTW, the Mr Gasket and Holly regulators don't work good at very low pressures and will let the pump flood the engine by putting too much pressure to the float and bending the tang to keep it from shutting off the fuel. Right now the most probable issue with your Weber is the float is set too high because of this and is out of calibration.

Are you using the Holley Blue or Red Regulator? The blue is higher pressure 6-10 lbs. or
so and the Red is 1-4 pounds or so.

very pressure oriented item . I found that most all of the fancy regulators do not regulate down very well . I tried 4 different fancy regs & ended up with the cheaper dial type . it works well . no over flow at the carb . I use a GOOD pressure gauge to test

The regulator isn't colored at all. It is just a Holley 12-804, and I bought a really good liquid filled low pressure gauge and have the pressure set with a new 12-804 regulator at just a hair over 2 lbs. The Carter pump is not supposed (12 volt) to put out more pressure than 2-4 lbs, but it does. Still will not start, but I think it is because of the float adjustment and the needle valve damage.

The float & needle valve should have been CHECKED/ADJUSTED in the beginning!!

If this filter gets the least bit "dirty" it will collapse. (don't ask me how I know that)
