Default Running board trim

I purchased a SS running board trim kit from one of the major venders and have a problem with the inner trim piece. My inner flange on my running board is 5/8" wide and the trim piece is 15/16" wide. The thickness (about .015") of the trim is a non issue. The vendor is getting in touch with the supplier, which I understand is the only one and haven't heard back yet. The vendor measured others in stock and they all measure the same and he says they have not had the problem in the past. Dec 28 Tudor any ideas?

Are your runningboards original Ford parts? From your 5/8" measurement, it appears you have repro runningboards. I have noticed that repro running boards, including Rootlieb (the best repro made in my opinion) have different height inner rails. Rootlieb's board inner rails are not as tall as the original. The rear vertical rail is.565" on the Rootlieb boards and on an original board the rail height is .672. My Rootlieb boards are probably 20 years old, so I am not sure they are still made the same. As you can see there is a difference of over .1". The outside rails are virtually the same height between the Rootlieb boards and original Ford boards. I have no idea why Rootlieb made their inner rail shorter. As you know the trim is made wider as you have to fold over the bottom to "crimp" it to the rails for the long pieces. I don't know the solution to your problem except to try to find narrower inner trim strips for another vendor.

My splash plates do not appear to be original and the runnining board deteriation is greater than the rest of the car so I don't think either is original. The measurements do compare with the Rootlieb board measurements that you provided. Maybe I can cut the bottom flange off and rivet them on the bottom side?

Rootlieb running boards have the outer flange made with an offset to match the trim offset, while the other makers just have a flat outer flange.

Does any other maker have the offset outer flange like the original boards used?

Some of the ss running board trim cannot be used on original running boards. MADE ONLY FOR REPRODUCTION . These are made in the USA. both zinc and ss as example, in GA. Mikes A ford-able parts. they have info telling you these will not fit original running board. this may be your problem. Have fun modelAtony tony white Lafayette, LA
