This is a Muncie auxiliary overdrive transmission that was saved for a project that is no longer going to be used. It has been in dry storage most of its life. I believe the it still has its original paint and shows very little wear. Everything shifts well and is well oiled. The Model number is T23F-1B. Below is the description from an early advertisement from the twenties.
(The Muncie transmission was produced by the Muncie Gear Company of Muncie Indiana. Muncie produced, like most other companies, a selective sliding gear transmission. This simply means that the shift lever, slides a gear along a shaft engaging other gears of different ratios and reducing or increasing the revolutions through the output shaft. Muncie provided 3 forward gears and one reverse, so in conjunction with the Ford transmission, created 7 forward gears ratios and 5 reverse. (3 in Ford Low gear, 3 in Ford High gear, the 7th comes from operating both in reverse which actually turns into a forward) If you have any questions or want some additional information PM me. Thanks for looking. |
