Default Durospark II

I am in the process of installing a rebuilt 460 engine into a 1995 Ford F-250 using the above Title. I have found diagrams for this unit in auto books but the wiring I have has extra wiring (4) four red wires I believe go's to the ignition switch. Can anybody help. Have diagrams if needed

Look up Duraspark II with GM HEI module, it works better and is cheaper to replace
if the module goes bad. They are also so small you can keep a spare in the glove box.

I use a Chrysler box. (LX 101, Standard Products) Its a simple 4 wire hook up, and can be found just about everywhere.

I agree with Dodge, use the HEI module (be sure and mount it on some kind of a heat sink), then use an e-core coil that came in the '95 f250. This system cannot use a ballast resistor, must power up with battery voltage. If you use a mopar box it requires a ballast and the better e-core coil won't work.
As far as an original duraspark, I was working in a dealership in '74 when the system came out, it was never reliable, was happy to see it go in the 80's

what is an e-core coil ? I am not familiar with that term/ item. I also have seen several set-ups using the Chrysler ( standard products ) Lx 101 box with a dura-spark pick-up coil and reluctor in the dist.,used with out a ballast resistor. I think it depends on the coil you use.

I never used a ballast resistor with any of the Mopar boxes I used. I will say I mostly used the performance chrome or race boxes. The race box has 44 degrees of dwell in it, but I still used it on the street for years. As for coils, mostly MSD or old Jacob's coils.

AZkid,
I see nobody gave you an answer to your question. I don't know what you have but, some of the duraspark boxes had an extra plug for some kind of timing retard. I've always used the duraspark boxes with the blue plastic where the wires go into the box. It has a plug with a red and white wire and a plug with orange, purple, black and green. With a stock distributor and coil it will just plug in and work just fine. I've used this set up sense the late '70's with good results. I don't know what I ever did without all this wonderful GM stuff on my Fords!

FWIW, and I don't know if this will help, try this link. 2nd page, Greenbird includes a wiring diagram. The rest is y block related, which you can ignore.

Pay attention, this man knows what he says. A blue strain relief module will work fine. Red, black, yellow, or brown are to be avoided. Especially the red unit. Those were drug into the dealerships daily! The blue unit has the numbers that begin with D8 on the casting. Wire it up per the Ford wiring diagram and it will perform great for many years. The parts are almost for the asking in a boneyard. Also get the harness and coil clip while you are there. You can probably use the coil, but it isn't expensive so get a fresh one.

I converted my 57 292 yblock years ago to a Duraspark sys and it's been just fine all those years. Picked up most all of the parts from the wrecking yard. Made it a easy to convert with all the factory looms to plug in. I too worked at Ford dealerships when this sys came out and yes, they had problems when it first came out. By the end of its run they ran just fine with little problems. They replaced Duraspark with the TFI sys (with the ecoil) and guess what. They had problems with it. If I remember correctly it was covered under emission warranty so customers got a break as long as it was under the mileage. After a while they got the bugs out of it and it too became a good system.
