Here's a few that interested me at the big car shows once a year at Owl's Head Me. about 400 cars, I couldn't post them all. The high wheel car with a tiller for steering is a Sears, 2 cyl, they drove it around. Walt

The D5 '40 slays me.
Two carbs are good, three's too many and four are just right!

Well, that D.5 with 4 carbs is super. But.......when is he going to paint it?
![]() There is a little humor in my post. On the back of Walt's coupe there is a little sign that says " what do you mean, when am I going to paint it?"" A little of that Downeast dry humor. Last edited by oldford2; 07-29-2015 at 08:05 AM. |

My D5 with Uncle Max 4 97's, straight linkage, great mileage. The 36 3 window pulled into my drive a couple of week ago, a super job of restoring. The 29 roadster pickup with a 276, L-100 cam, friend of mine, we've traveled many miles together. The chopped high boy coupe is another friend lives close to me. Hey John, it is painted, John Deere flat black. Walt

Walt years ago I used to fly into there and haul lobsters from Pete's, he's the guy that supplied bait and bought all the lobsters from the fishermen. Last price I remember was $1.75 a lb. G.M.

Walt.....it's good to see your D-5 and your friends RPU out and about. When you see him next......tell him I still think about driving that RPU at your place. That was a blast. A hot flatty with a T5.....great combo.

Hi there, I think that high wheeler is not a Sears but is one of the several replicas of the first Benz of 1885 which has one cylinder. Regards, Kevin.

The Sears has 2 cyl flat under the floor air cooled, 4 wagon style wheels and steers with a tiller. The other old wagon style has 3 wheels, 2 on front and one in rear, I don't what the make is, nothing to tell. Walt

Hi Walt, As I posted that machine is a replica of the original 1885 Benz Motorwagen. The English firm of John Bentley Engineering built 14 replicas between 1986 and 1997. They have been sold around the world. One was auctioned in the USA for $46,200 recently. There is at least one or more here in Australia. There is one replica in the Mercedes Benz Museum in Germany. The original is in the Deutsches Museum in Munich, Germany. The engine is a single horizontal cylinder with a vertical crankshaft and a horizontal flywheel. It develops 3/4 hp. with a speed of approx. 8mph. Heaps of info if you google, Benz 1885. Regards, Kevin.
