Are Floater Motor Mounts Higher than Originals?
I was disappointed to hear that I had "Floater Motor Mounts" in my '30 Town Sedan. I bought a Goerlich heater attachment to sit atop my exhaust manifold. Its exit hole is about an inch or so higher than the hole in my firewall with the adjustable hole in it. I have to wonder if the floater motor mounts caused this offset. Any input??? - Chuck

I put rear flop a motor in a 31 tudor ,screwed up the caster a bit,I thought it was either to high in back or to low..should have measured motor position closely before making any changes to rear motor mounts..front keep stock setup..sc

Ok, so I'm not sure then if the Floater motors caused this offset. It would definitely raise the caster and cause harder steering and more plow, or rake. A club member said that they would allow the frame to twist. I don't like the sound of that, but don't know much about it. I guess original mounts kept the frame more solid. I will have to look at getting original mounts.
The exit hole of the heater is only a half inch or so away from the firewall... too close to try to make some sort of down-spout to the firewall hole.

Can you use a short piece of larger tube that would cover both the holes for the heater? Bert's in Denver should have original engine mounts for you. 800-321-1931

Mine wasn't any higher than the originals. It did let the motor move forward enough that I couldn't get the front oil pan bolts out.

The variation occurs because of the amount of compression or lack of compression of the rubber donut on the rear mounts. If the rubber is old it probably has compressed and is allowing the engine to be lower, if it is new then you can compress it a little more by tightening the bolt.

Different manifold heaters have different heights. Who knows what heater the hole in your firewall was originally cut for?

to answer your question no they are not higher. most of the responses here are credible so use your judgment on how to best fix the issue.

My heater's exit hole is HIGHER than the firewall hole, so a crushed donut would make it lower. I think this heater is just not compatible with my car. Guess I'll try another, then compare and sell what doesn't work. Sheesh... all this after market stuff!

The crank hole does line up, but that's due to the front mount being original, IMHO.

i have seen where the rear floater style mounts are installed upside down which will misalign the crank hole due to the tilt of the engine. thats good news your is aligned. thanks for getting back to us

Thanks for explaining that. I had half a thought like that when you first said it... about TILT due to rear mounts, but didn't know they could be installed upside down. I'd better look at mine (lol)... not sure if I could tell.
