A shortcut for banjo assembly

This is not my idea. Tom Endy uses it in his model A tutorial. For those who have not seen it,Make up10 3/8-24 studs. Screw these studs into banjo,put on gasket,put on axle bell. This keeps gasket centered and it is much easier to line up holes. No more catching the edge of the paper and cutting it or tearing it.
If it is a test fitting put nuts on the studs and tighten. For final assembly remove studs and put in bolts.

How does this affect the holes, I read here somewhere they have some sort of special thread to prevent leakage?

I think the only thing special about them is they are tight and running a tap through them will loosen them up, bad idea, but a stud should be fine.

I forgot to mention that the studs also guide the bell right onto the banjo,so no positioning of it. Studs made from regular bolts or all thread will not hurt the threads.

I have been using the studs to do my setup. The thread on the stud fits loose in the bolt hole. They are there just for line up not assembly. I have been just using 3 or 4. We have started using the gaskets made by Best and I have had less problems with shrinkage then the plant fiber gaskets from other sources.

The Best Gaskets are a definite improvement over the old shrunk paper. I wish you could find them sepparate instead of the whole kit with torque tube gaskets. The studs are a loose fit,may not be a good idea to put too much torque on them.
