Default Anyone have one of these?

Needing to pull the engine and tranny from my 1930 CCPU, I need a folding Shop Crane from 1 to 2 ton capacity. I think..

Does anyone have a Harbor Freight 1 or 2 ton Crane? Do you like it? Any Caveats?

Current price with a Coupon is $139 for the 1 ton.

Objective comments very welcome..

Just used my crane from HF, it works great and folds up so it takes up less room.

I have one and it is fine except for one thing. All six wheels are casters and the crane will roll to the side under load if you are on any kind of slope. I would like the casters at the far end of the legs to be fixed wheels instead. I have lost control and tipped sideways when the crane rolled to the edge of the driveway under a load. I dumped a flathead V8 and a South Bend 9" lathe. The lathe suffered some damage but I came out OK. So be careful with it and if it starts to go then get out of the way because you can't stop it.

I have an older HF. Works great. Not the fold up kind tho. Only has 4 wheels, I think rear two don't turn. I've pulled Y-Blocks with it no problem. I have their load leveler also. http://www.harborfreight.com/2-ton-c...ler-60659.html

The 1 ton engine hoists usually come up for sale for $99 every once in a while. I usually find them in magazines more often than the coupons that are sent to me or emails.

I just used the Harbor Freight crane to pull the engine from my sedan. Worked great, I like the fold up feature for storage.

I have one and I didnt like the fixed wheels on the crane end, so I cut them off and welded on a piece of angle iron so I could put casters on all 4 wheels....
I did this so when I needed to move the crane sideways under the car it was easier.
I also bought a jack that works on the up and down stroke, it saves a little time and effort.
Different strokes for different folks.

HF 1 ton is great. Haven't seen a $99.00 coupon for a long time. That's what I used

Look inside a Car Magazine. Harbor Freight usually has a 1 or 2 page Ad in them. The Coupon prices are cheaper than Harbor Freights normal Sales Flyers. I've seen it for $99.00 last month.

My friend likes his H/F hoist. BTW, hydraulic jacks are less likely to leak or get air pockets if they are stored completely collapsed and with the valve shut.

As with creepers, keep the wheels well lubed and they roll a lot easier.

On the 4 wheel caster thing, having it both ways would be the best. So often I need to scoot the thing sideways an inch or three to get lined up. But rolling it outside to load an engine is annoying because it's hard to steer! Think I'm going to cobble up a way to lock and unlock the front casters on my new HF fold-up.

I bought this one -- brand new, never assembled -- on Craig's List for ~ $150. No freight. (except for the 50 mile trip to go get it) Folds up nice when not in use.
