Emergency brake linkage

Passenger side turned out well. The "U" bracket and linkage will move ever so slightly and the outside lever works well and expands the lining band in a normal way.

The band fits well on the plate lugs.

The Driver's side is not good, and I don't know why.. Yet..

"U" bracket; linkage and outside lever very hard to move and I can't get the band onto the plate lugs.

Visually, they look the same but reversed of course. I was wondering if someone could suggest some things I might try before the whole Driver's side comes back off..

well id take it down to just the outside lever and see if its hard to turn, if it is start there.

Which way do you have the U shaped links installed. And remember cotter pins on all parking brake pins to the inside. also make sure your have the band facing the correct direction, there is an in and out side.

Talk to me about how to make sure the band is "facing the correct direction." I did not know that..

Here are two pictures showing both styles of brake bands. They were forged first, then changed to a stamping for the toggle brackets.

Notice on the forged one that the flat side must ride against the carrier, and on the stamped ones, there is an offset to ride against the carrier. So in both pictures the side towards the bottom of the picture is the side that rides against the carrier.

I install the toggle pins with the cotter pins facing the outside of the car.
I also use high temp grease on all the moving parts.
