Thanks Shelly, I just thought I'd let it slide, but you let the cat out of the bag. I consider all these guys part of a large family. Not every one seez things the way you do, but you learn by listening and maybe trying different things they offer. I'm honored to be a part of this and my main purpose is to make you think, " Plan ahead" There are may things I've learned here on the Barn that has helpe me understand more about our beloved Flathed. My experience with these engines was limited to some early street racinf 8 years on a short track, and putting to gether a few dozen engines at Nostalgia engines. The reason I wrote my book is George Perrys fault. After building a few for him, He said I should write a book because I explain it better. My next project is installing anEFI system on a flathead. I know this has been done by others but I will have complete conteol of the ignition, which is really the Key to proper engine operation. All this at low cost and keeping the engine looking stock. Might not work out but it's something to do. I've seen al the re runs on TV
I want to thank everybody for their wishes, I'll keep truckin as long as I can. |

Have to think that EFI is the ultimate mod to any engine. Looking forward to have you share with your family.

Happy Birthday Ron. I think you have established a pristine relationship with every single person on this forum. How do you do it? I have never once seen you cause any friction or controversy in all your years on the forums. That is an amazing accomplishment, and a testament to what a fine gentleman you are. Your as skilled with people as you are with flatheads. Thanks for being a mentor to so many.

Ron I remember a VERY long time ago taking a trip north to your place {think it was a doctors property} I was on a hunt for ARDUN heads. Me Mike Hart and Pete Coleman talked with you over a cup of coffee I along with Mike both said you should write a book that was way before George Perry glad George was the guy who finally got you to do it. On that day so long ago we walked threw deep snow to the barn where we bought an empty flathead block with a huge steel girdle set up and a set of pistons 3-1/2 inch diameter the ARDUN heads were gone but we did find some valves and spark plug tubes for the ARDUN so I bought those from you also. I still have those ARDUN parts and pistons that block is going to run next weekend in Maine its seen a lot of abuse since I first built it for my Land Speed Race car I keep patching her up and learning more as I do it. No I didn't use the heavy girdle I replaced that with a different design.
Happy Birthday |

Boy Ron that was a long time ago, I was going through some rough times then and had to sell most everything to survive. As I remember the pistons were magnesium?? I made that gurdl when working in Conn. I think all it needed was line boring and bearing notching. But I'm glad all that stuff went to a good cause. Take care Ol' Ron

Thanks for sharing your experiences and your latest ideas with us all these years. You have been most generous to all in need of flathead info with the addition of a big helping of common sense engineering..........Bob L
