I have a 3 inch clamp on mirror that is just about worthless. I'm going to order
4 or 5 inch with a longer stem. What works best, the one that mounts on the hinge, the clamp on or the stud mounted. I'm only after what gives the best rear view. Bob Giles |

I like the hinge mount with 5" mirrors on both sides.

I got the hinge mount mirrors of Brattons. They work great. I bought the tool from them also since I was having trouble getting the door pins out. It's essentially a C-clamp which you tighten down to push the pins out. Pretty simple job with the tool!

I just changed my heads from 4" to 5" on my hinge mounts. I like the 5" much better.

What is the body style is your car? The hinge mirrors won't fot some bodies without mods.

When I purchased my Tudor it had a clamp on mirror. It vibrated a lot and was hard to see out of. I replaced it with a hinge mount, no more vibration issues and works great. So good in fact I added a hinge mirror to the right side. I purchased the pin remover tool and recommend them.

Many vendors carry a 5" mirror head that will fit on your existing hinge mirror arm. I've replaced the 4" ones on my coupe with 5" and like 'em a bunch. They are certainly easier to see what's sneakin' up on you!
Here's a black one from Snyder's: http://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/3217 They also come in chrome for more $$ |
