My opinion is Nylon/Teflon work great IF the ball they are next to is round and smooth. Polished balls really help the Nylon kits work well but will deteriorate very quickly if the ball is worn or rough.

I like Staylube Boat Wheel Bearing grease, it is water proof, has a drop point of 400, and stays in place and does not run out like most grease with a lower drop point. I even use it to pack my wheel bearings and other grease locations. Been doing it for over 30 years and have had no problems.

Look new is not the right answer. A well worn ball may look shiny new.
You need to measure for roundness. If you can feel the bump with your fingers you need new balls. If you can not feel any edge of the wear then it is a judgement call. A few thousands of wear and a smooth feeling is ok, but there is a point where you may want new balls. |
