Default Think inside the box (trailer)

Needing to move two model A's and two similar size vehicles almost 1200 miles, I needed to come up with something inventive to keep from spending a fortune. I was able to get a dry van semi trailer for a fraction of any other covered option. I then set 4x6 timers on the floor just outside the wheels, from front to back, and screwed 2x4 cross braces in front of and behind every tire. At this end I had access to a dock to drive them on. At the other end I had a flat bed tow truck come out and he just extended his bed right into the truck and drove them off one at a time. He then backed up, tilted the bed and drove them off. The cars arrived in perfect condition and never moved a fraction of an inch.

Whirnot,
Did you somehow anchor the 4x6's to the floor of the trailer or just let the whole wood assembly around the tires "float"? It seems like you would need to attach the wood you made to the trailer floor, but I suspect most trailer owners don't want screw or nail holes in the floor of their trailer.

Did you also tie them down?

I intended to screw them down, Most carriers don't mind if you don't get carried away, but had some help and it didn't get done. But with each tire locked between 2x4's, the boards prevent rotation and the bottom surface acts as a brake. the timbers also touched the front for added safety.

I did not tie them down, each would have to jump about 6 inches to get out. I did butt them right against each other, with an old tire between some, and the A's, having matched bumpers, I just put a rubber mat between bumpers.

What might be even better would be to by a steel shipping container that would hold 2 cars.
When it is delivered, it can be placed on your property. Now you have another storage shed for your toys or whatever.

Just to further your idea, my 40' container can hold 3 Model-As end-to-end.
