Do the nuts go on the top or the bottom? Thanks in advance.

Until mid 1929 when the cotter pins were dropped.

I will always install a bolt such that gravity will keep it in place of the nut is lost. I have fount the only time this to be incorrect is when there is inadequate clearance to insert the bolt in that orientation.

The two bottom radiator mounting bolts are the only ones I can think of where the nuts are on top, and that sure made it harder to install and remove the cotter pins.

I picked these up many years ago and was told they also used spring as shown in photo.
Explains the reason that both nut and bolts were drilled. Brian |

They look like a good idea but unfortunately they are not originals. The hex bolts had a hole for a cotter but the 1/2" square nuts did not have holes plus they did not use springs.

the thread seems to have moved from engine pan to radiator mounting bolts ... attached see (L) original engine pan bolt (early), no nut. (R) original rad mount bolt/nut/spring (early short version)
