Default Mounting bumper irons on a '34 Ford

A friend is mounting front and back bumpers of his 34 Ford, He says he's seen pics that show 2 diferent ways of mounting them - I'm not sure what that means though, I know the rear irons go on the end of the frame through the apron and go straight out , but the fronts go on the frame horns but can angle either up or down , but down is correct, right? Anyone in the know? Thanks!

They angle up - the frame horns already angle down. He can tell by trying it, the dip in the bumper should be just below the level of the crank hole.

There's only one way to attach the front bumper brackets with the curved portion of the brackets pointing to the sides that results in the face of the bumper being in a vertical position as intended.

More confusion can be had by debating if BOTH inner and outer front bumper brackets are mounted outboard or inboard the frame horns, or if separated by the frame horn.... also if the inners are bent and massaged incorrectly or intermixed 1933 VS 1934, one can easily go bonkers...

Hi there, Front bumper brackets are mounted one each on either side of the chassis frame horn. They only go one way otherwise the bracket holes don't line up with the holes in the bumper. 1933 and 34 bumpers have a different spacing between the inboard two mounting holes. 1933 are 21 3/4" centre to centre and 1934 are 25 3/4" centre to centre. Like wise the mounting brackets for 1933 & 1934 are different as well. Regards, Kevin.

Mine are mounted like koates says, one on either side of the frame horn. Something would have to be bent goofy to get them on any other way.
I'm sure 33-34 parts have been mixed into cars over the years and that would cause confusion.

I think that's what the uncertainty was, whether one went on each side of the frame or both on one side. Got 'er figured out anyway.....thanks, as always, guys!
