Default E28 Fuel Shut Off Valve

During recent rebuild of my fuel shut-off valve I noted that I am missing what appears in illustration to be a small metal spring that fits under the cap (see pix). Vendors sell the packing but do not include the spring.

Anyone know a source for a repro of a modern substitute (specs) of this small spring? What about the spring on the water pipe shut off valve (have not tried as yet, would prefer to not sacrifice this item if a repro spring is available)?

Charles,

I did the ones I have a few months ago. Some of the spring were junk, plus,
only one had both washers (one on either side of the spring). The washers
are a big deal, at least to me, it keeps the spring from digging into the "cap"
or the packing.

The spring, original, measures;..... wire dia. = .048"
The spring I found, for replacement;.... .042"
The O.D. on the original is;.... .500"
Found spring;.... .480"
The length should be around;..... .550"

Uhhhh....I haven't done the drain yet,.....I'll let you know when I get there...

Also,....same thing, but different. I made this tool to "resurface" all the tapers,
on both male and female sides for the "shut off valve", "piping" and the
"sediment bowl" for a leak-less set-up. I'm working on the "compression fittings"
seats for the other side of the sediment bowl and carburetor.....

Most hardware stores have a pretty good assortment of springs. There is a Sears Hardware store east of Mark Maron's house that has the largest spring assortment I've found. They even had the exact match for a Model A spring I needed. I can't remember which spring that was though. Maybe one of the Abell starter drive springs?
