Today I got the motor to turn over and run for about 30 seconds today before it died.
This is only a chassis at this point as I've not started on the bodywork. I made a makeshift firewall out of wood to hang the coil, and other wiring merely to get the motor running. I only put enough gas in the line to fill the gas bowl and carb as I and don't have the gas tank on yet. This is a rebuilt motor by Schwalms and it was good to hear it run. I've got the cowl separated from the body so I can probably just mount that with the firewall to set the gas tank on to get the motor for fuel feed while I work on the rest of the body. This 29 standard coupe was my father-in-laws and I'm in kind of a race against the clock to get something meaningful done with it so that he can enjoy some of the progress while he still can. He has Alzheimers and I wanted to at least give him the pleasure of seeing it run. He slipping more and more each day and who knows what lies ahead for him while I keep on with the restoration work. Lots more work to do but it does feel good to know its timed properly, fires and will run. This has been a long time in the making. |
