Do you mean the holes in the bottom lip? If memory serves, there are a couple left of the steering wheel, one for a fog light switch and another for a Columbia control. Another on the right of the steering wheel is for the heater switch. There are also two smaller small holes under the speaker grill for the J hooks used to mount a radio. I'm sure others will chime in.

Please clarify exactly what holes you are referring to.
Standard and Deluxe dashes had the same holes on the bottom lip. NO holes were ever placed in a dash (1940 Ford) for a Columbia control as a Columbia was NOT an authorized accessory in 1940. The holes typically utilized for the control was for the convertible top control. Near that set of holes were the holes for fog lamp switch.

Kube, when were these "authorized" ? And what determined whether or not any product was Ford authorized? |

Columbia overdrive units were authorized by Ford for Ford vehicles I believe in 1941. Perhaps an expert on 1941 Fords can weigh in here. They most certainly were NOT an authorized accessory for 1940 Ford vehicles. I am not 100% certain how Ford goes about authorizing any parts.

I think that's where the column drop / column lock / ignition switch assy bolts up.
See the picture here, I think it was post #4 https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showth...ht=column+drop |
