This apron looks like it is screwed into the frame as well. I need to remove it and get a broken bolt out that supports the spare tire mount. Does anyone have great techniques? These screws will not turn and I don't want to strip the slotted heads.
Thank you |

Wow, I have read this several times now and I apologize but I STILL cannot visualize what part you are speaking of. Can you start by telling us what year & body style you are working on please? Does your vehicle have side-mounts or a rear spare??
BTW welcome to Fordbarn!! |

first what body style are you working on. you say the screws go into the frame or are they going into the body, I do not know of any screws in the rear panel that go into the frame .are you restoring the car, it makes a big deference on how you go about getting the screws out.

Sounds like the rear valence panel on a Fordor ("rear body shield bolted between the fenders"). Other than attaching to the fenders, I can't remember what else held them in place - could be different from one year/model to another also (?).

Irish7,
Had the same problem with the slotted screws on the windshield. I used an air rivet gun with a screwdriver bit and a handle on the side ti turn it. Get some of those screwdriver bits from a hammer impact screwdriver. Cut off the point of a a chisel, weld on a socket that the screwdriver bits fit in. Weld a handle on the side. As you hammer on the screw, turn the handle. Ed |
