Default Just bought another Model A 1931 Coupe

Hi,

Just getting back into things here and starting a new project. My new ride does not need a lot of work but some little fixing here and there. First I want to fix the gas gauge if I recall its no big deal need to get that special tool and a new gauge set up. Can some one tell me how may gallons the fuel tank holds?

10 Gallons. Ford specs. say 11 gallons, and it certainly does hold eleven gallons. BUT you better have your 'spark arrestor' screen in the fill hole at the top of the tank, and immediately drive it a bit to use up some of the gas.

A full 11 gallons will slosh out the filler hole unless the screen is in the tank, which acts to stabilize the gas from sloshing about while driving. Also, a full 11 gallons will have the chance (especially if the air is warm) expand to the point of over-flowing out the top of the tank.

A more prudent amount to put into the 11 gallon tank is 10 gallons.

P.S.- the 1930 & '31 tanks held 11 gallons. The 1928 & '29 gas tanks held 10 gallons. - there too, 9 gallons is a more prudent amount to gas to put into the gas tank of a '28-'29. Again, the inserted 'spark arrestor' screen is important to help avoid gas sloshing into over-flow.

OK thank you that's great information. The spark arrestor is in place but that does make it hard to fill with an auto shut off pump it seems - do you take yours out to fill or just pump real slow?
