Default Dog bone rubber balls

Cleaning my car for a tour Sat. And I was reminded how noisy and loose the shock links are. I've replaced the rubber balls several times, the last time two years ago. Anyone have a better solution, staying with the dogbones.
I was thinking of maybe thick rubber tape . Simpler then ordering and paying freight on such a small item, besides the longevity factor of the balls. Don't know, but it just seems there should be a better mouse trap.
Just out of curiosity, how good are the original links? Thanks. Chuck
