I recently became the proud owner of a 1930 Standard Phaeton. After a lot of hours checking and repairing many items she is now running beautifully.
This is very nice offcourse but has presented me with a new problem: When driving relatively fast (80km/h) with the roof down the fabric of the rooftop starts whipping in the wind. The standard lashings are only on the sides of the car but there is nothing in the middle to hold the fabric together. I think I read somewhere that back in the days there was a Ford accessory cover to place over the open roof. Does anyone know if these are still available somewhere? Or does anyone have other tips or tricks to lash the open rooftop?

What you need is a Top Boot, ...and most of the kit suppliers have them, --or can make you one.

Elizabeth at Classtique upholstery made my 28 Phaeton kit and top boot. I have yet to install it but it looks very good as do the other upholstery jobs I've seen by her.

Thanks for the tips. I was searching for a lot of words on google but "boot" wasn't one of them ;-)

Get the nice cover others have suggested but if you're an old skinflint like yours truly a central leather strap from spare wheel ( if at the back) to a lift-the-dot fastener at the top of the back seat looks neat and saves a lot of $$$$ (or in our case over here £££££££)

"The optimist believes we are living in the best of all possible worlds. The pessimist fears this is true."
Add that one to your tag, "Badaboom". ![]() Marshall |
